Translation Quality Assessment

How we provide only high-quality output

Translation quality assessment is one of the essential factors in our work, not because the ISO regularly checks us but because we care about our clients, and it is also in our best interest to keep quality up at all times. We never settle for anything else but high-quality translation services.

Translation quality assessment

Universal Translation Services realizes that it holds certain obligations towards its clients, the legal and ethical ones. This refers to the standards UTS has to maintain to keep the translation quality at its highest level.

The ISO has always checked us and come out clean with little to no errors. Errors are caught and reported immediately due to our translation quality control. This is not done to point out the mistakes of the translator; rather, it’s done to improve our standards for your sake and ours. We go to extreme ends to ensure results of the highest order.

Quality has been, is and will always be our topmost priority.

How do we keep the translation quality high?

TEP (translation + editing + proofreading)

We use TEP (translation + editing and proofreading)

Universal Translation Services is a global agency that follows international standards of translation. We conduct our translations with a severe respect for the money and effort of our clients. We ensure that the translations we drive are up to the mark and will be done according to our client’s expectations.

We ensure the quality of our translations by conducting every project through ‘the TEP workflow.’ A TEP workflow is a method of working translation that includes two steps. This method is accepted as the standard for translation practices worldwide, and the translations done following this method are considered the best. We follow this method, which implies having two different linguists working on each project because we understand that quality is essential for our clients.

  • The first translator translates the document.
  • The second linguist proofreads and edits the translation while making sure there have been no omissions by comparing it to the original document.

Those two steps are considered the cornerstone of modern translation standards and practices.

Following are the steps to ensure that our team takes a standard TEP method to the highest level of accountability.

The text is translated by a native speaker of your target language and a near-native of your source language who has complete competence in the document field.

editing

Editing

The text is edited by another professional translator who ensures the translation is up to the mark, there are no mistakes, and no part of the original document has been omitted.

proofreading

Proofreading

The second linguist also proofreads the translation, but he also makes sure that the translation is accurate and the content is designed according to the specifications given by the client.

  • What is quality output?

Quality output refers to producing products that fulfill all the client’s requirements. Only producing a product is not enough; it must also be satisfactory for users. Service providers must employ the right techniques to provide quality customer assistance.

  • How can you improve the quality of a product?

There are various ways to improve the quality of a product. You can implement a solid quality management system. Listening to the feedback of customers will also help you figure out the changes you can make to improve the quality of your products. Regular product testing is also significant to improve quality.

  • What does quality mean to customers?

To customers, quality means the product fulfills their needs. As long as they are satisfied with the product manufacturers offer, they will consider it high-quality. It is also important for a product to be reliable. Customers won’t consider it a high-quality product if it has a short life.

  • What is more important production or quality Why?

A company cannot meet the demand if it does not keep its production up. However, there is one thing that is more important than production, and that’s quality. If the company is not focusing on quality, it will be unable to keep its customers happy. The demand will also go down, ultimately affecting a company’s business.

  • What is translation quality assessment?

Translation quality assessment is the process in which the relationship between source and target text is established. It also involves plenty of steps that are taken to ensure the quality of a translation. The accuracy, expression, and technicality are checked to ensure a high-quality translation.

  • How do you evaluate translation quality?

To evaluate translation quality, the accuracy is checked first. The translation should convey the meaning of the source text in its entirety. But that’s not the only important thing. The quality of expression also matters, as does the consistency of the document. It must also be devoid of all kinds of errors.

  • What is translation testing?

Translation testing is the process in which the accuracy and quality of a translation are measured. The translator can do it by going through their work themselves. It can also be tested by making a native speaker read a part of the translation and asking them if they have understood the context of the text.

  • Which translator is the most accurate?

There are a lot of online translators available these days that offer linguistic assistance to users. Out of all of them, Google Translate and Microsoft Translator are the most accurate ones. They also have plenty of useful features that make it easier for users to navigate their way through the program.

translation quality control

Assuring high translation quality for your satisfaction

The biggest concern a customer of a translation agency comes across is the quality of the translated material. He’s often faced with such worries as is the translation put right. Is it in close accordance with the target market? Is it linguistically and culturally accurate? Will it be understandable by the local communities? And so on. The list of worries is never-ending since the language translated is often unknown to the client; hence, there is no way of assessing the quality of the material. But UTS is cautious of how you feel. That is why we assure our clients of quality services by collaborating with quality assurance organizations who closely check how we work and regulate the flow of work.

With the increase in demand for translation service providers, the translation agencies quickened their pace and overcrowded the world for easy accessibility to the people. The need for high quality was equally called for. Thus, to assure the clients of the kind of services they were getting, there was a need for a gauge or meter or scale to measure the quality of work accurately.

To meet the need for translation quality assessment, methods were introduced under the International Standards Organization’s umbrella, ensuring that the quality is never compromised.

What kind of translation quality control do we use

The quality certification for Universal Translation Services is given by ISO 9001 and ISO 17100. These two renowned QA standards are set by ISO, which monitors us throughout the year, making sure that we work in line with the set standards and do not deviate at any point.

ISO 9001

ISO 9001 certified

UTS has always maintained its reputation by adopting several measures. One such instance is ISO certification, a well-established organization assisting quality management systems. UTS has been accredited with ISO 9001 certification due to meeting qualitative standards.

ISO sets standards that help us cope with the industry’s best practices, ensuring that we meet the expectations of customers and other stakeholders.

We would instead turn the issues they identified into opportunities and strive for continual improvement at our end.

This is to confirm that we are continuously under monitoring by the giants of quality assessment organizations.

Benefits of accreditation

Translation quality control helps yield extraordinary results and raises the bar of standards, not only ours but yours.

  • Continuous feedback results in constant improvement
  • Enables us to build trust among our clients
  • It gives us a competitive edge over non-certified suppliers
  • Helps us in improving every facet of our customer services

Did you know more than a million companies in around 175 countries rely on ISO certification to improve and upgrade operations and services?

ISO 17100

ISO 17100:2015 certified

It is a translation quality control-specific certification. While ISO 9001 caters to diverse fields, ISO 17100 was established only for the translation industry, set up back in 2015. The ISO’s technical committee prepared the guidelines. It looks after every aspect of translation, from terminologies to language and content resources interpretation of other related technologies.

Universal Translation Services has, after all, through dedicated and rigorous hard work, achieved its certification. ISO 17100 specifies requirements for all aspects of the translation process affecting the quality and delivery of our translation services in a manner that yields the most suitable results for our clients.

Every year, biannual audits are held both at ISO 9001 and 17100. If they find any translation discrepancy, the certification is automatically revoked. On the other hand, we have always met the set standards, making us proud achievers of both.

Since this system of translation quality assessment is specifically for the accurate translation industry has earned worldwide recognition. Now, it is being adopted and recognized on higher platforms.

LISA translation quality control

LISA quality assurance model

Localization Industry Standards Association or LISA is a default quality assurance model set up at UTS for structuring the reviews on the quality reviewers give. The reviewer grading window comprises specific categories related to feedback. This window is made available to the reviewer, who then grades the translation undertaken according to his better understanding. The sheet has types of minor, major and critical grading lists. The reviewer marks the sheet depending on the performance and could keep 1 for minor and 1 for necessary or even for major in case of mistranslations. The score is based on the markings and totaled at the end of the review. The score decides the pass or fail of the project. If the quality is below the line, it is termed a failure. But the pass and fail categories are just for translation quality assurance. In case of failure where the translation cannot meet the quality, it is then sent to the next translator as usual.

What does the LISA grading system consist of?

The grading model comprises accuracy grading, terminology grading, language, style, country, mistranslations and consistency, typography, alignment, and more related to the translation domain. These are marked based on a minor, major and critical, as discussed above.

These steps are taken to ensure quality for our esteemed clients.

translation quality assessment

How Can We Ensure Translations of the Highest Quality?

The answer is language professionals. A professional translator must handle translation, but it is equally necessary that the translator’s work is maintained by a team of experts and quality assessment tools to preserve the quality of the translation.

A native-speaker translator, editor, and quality checker ensures the translation is correct or creative enough but doesn’t appear like a translation. In the case of high-volume projects, it may be helpful to add a step to ensure a high-quality final product: a quality assessment or QA. We are looking for a text that is sufficiently true to the source text but simultaneously seems natural and local in the target language and is free from any terrible grammar or punctuation mistakes!

Finally, let’s not forget that even the best team of translators is not as effective or valuable if there isn’t a project manager guiding them toward the best results. They ensure any issue found along the way is promptly and appropriately solved and that the final result always aligns with the client’s requirements.

Strategic Translation of Teams, Expertise, and Quality Oversight

In the realm of translation projects, the collaboration of dedicated translation teams is essential to ensure accuracy and linguistic fidelity. The success of these teams depends on their expertise in the subject matter they handle, ranging from technical documents to creative content. Implementing a robust translation quality assurance process within the translation workflow is crucial to maintain high standards.

While machine translation tools and translation memory systems expedite the process, human oversight is indispensable for nuanced linguistic nuances. Translation quality management is pivotal, ensuring consistency and precision across projects. Language service providers play a key role in orchestrating these elements, bringing together specialized teams, advanced tools, and rigorous processes to deliver reliable and polished translations.

Effective and initial translation requires the involvement of a subject matter expert who possesses in-depth knowledge and proficiency in the specific field, ensuring accurate and contextually relevant translations. Subject matter expertise is paramount in the review process, where the expert evaluates the translated content for technical accuracy and appropriateness for the target population.

Adhering to a high-quality standard is crucial to meet the diverse linguistic needs of the audience. Translation providers play a vital role in this process, employing skilled professionals who go beyond literal translation to capture the nuances of the source language. Utilizing advanced translation tools enhances efficiency and consistency throughout the translation workflow, contributing to the delivery of precise and polished translations.
