Translation Quality Assessment
How we provide only high-quality output
Translation quality assessment is one of the most important factors in our work, not because of the fact that we are regularly checked by the ISO, but because we care about our clients and it is also in our best interest to keep quality up at all times. We never settle for anything else but high quality translation services.
Translation quality assessment
Universal Translation Services realizes that it holds certain obligations towards its clients, the kind of legal and ethical ones. This refers to the standards UTS has to maintain in order to keep the translation quality at its highest level.
We have always been checked by the ISO and we always come out clean with little to no errors. The errors of any kind are caught and reported immediately due to our translation quality control. This is not done to point out the mistakes of the translator rather, it’s done to improve our standards for your sake and for ours. We go to extreme ends in ensuring results of the highest order.
Quality has been, is and will always be our topmost priority.
How do we keep the translation quality high?
We use TEP (translation + editing and proofreading)
Universal Translation Services is a global agency which follows international standards of translation. We conduct our translations with a serious respect for the money and effort of our clients. We make sure that the translations that we conduct are up to the mark and will be done according to our client’s expectations.
We ensure the quality of our translations by conducting every project through ‘the TEP workflow’. A TEP workflow is a method of conducting translation that includes two steps. This is a method that is accepted as the standard for translation practices worldwide and the translations done following this method are considered the best. We follow this method which implies having 2 different linguists working on each project because we understand that the quality is very important for our clients.
- First translator translates the document
- The second linguist proofreads and edits the translation while making sure there have been no omissions by comparing it to the original document
Those two steps are considered the cornerstone of modern translation standards and practices.
Following are the steps we take to ensure that a standard TEP method is taken to the highest level of accountability by our team.
Translation
Translation of the text is done by a native speaker of your target language and near-native of your source language, who has complete competence in the field of the document.
Editing
The text is edited by another professional translator who ensures that the translation is up to the mark, there are no mistakes and no part of the original document has been left out.
Proofreading
The second linguist also proofreads the translation, but he also makes sure that the translation is accurate and the content is designed according to the specifications given by the client.
Final review
Our Quality Analysis team will review the final translation for any and all problems and prepares the final product for the client, including DTP. The translation is then delivered to the client.
What is quality output?
Quality output refers to the production of products that fulfill all the requirements of the clients. Only the production of a product is not enough, it must be satisfactory enough for the users too. It is the duty of service providers to employ the right techniques so they can provide quality assistance to all of their customers.
How can you improve the quality of a product?
There are various ways to improve the quality of a product. You can implement a solid quality management system. Listening to the feedback of customers will also help you figure out the changes you can make to improve the quality of your products. Regular product testing is also very important in order to improve quality.
What does quality mean to customers?
To customers, quality means the product fulfills their needs. As long as they are satisfied with the product that has been offered to them by manufacturers, they will consider it of high-quality. It is also important for a product to be reliable. If it has a short life, customers won’t think of it as a high-quality product.
What is more important production or quality Why?
A company cannot meet the demand if it does not keep its production up. However, there is one thing that is more important than production and that’s quality. If the company is not focusing on quality, it will not be able to keep its customers happy. The demand will also go down, ultimately affecting the business of a company.
What is translation quality assessment?
Translation quality assessment is the process in which the relationship between source and target text is established. It also involves plenty of steps that are taken to ensure the quality of a translation. The accuracy, expression, and technicality are checked to make sure that a translation is of high-quality.
How do you evaluate translation quality?
In order to evaluate translation quality, the accuracy is checked first. The translation should convey the meaning of the source text in its entirety. But that’s not the only important thing. The quality of expression also matters, as does the consistency of the document. It must also be devoid of all kinds of errors.
What is translation testing?
Translation testing is the process in which the accuracy and quality of a translation is measured. It can be done by the translator by going through their work themselves. It can also be tested by making a native speaker read a part of the translation and asking them if they have understood the context of the text.
Which translator is the most accurate?
There are a lot of online translators available these days that offer linguistic assistance to users. Out of all of them, Google Translate and Microsoft Translator are the most accurate ones. They also have plenty of useful features that makes it easier for users to navigate their way through the program.
Assuring high translation quality for your satisfaction
The biggest concern a customer of a translation agency comes across is the quality of the translated material. He’s often faced with such worries as, is the translation put right? Is it in close accordance with the target market? Is it linguistically and culturally accurate? Will it be understandable by the local communities? And so on and so forth. The list of worries is never ending since the language translated is often unknown to the client and hence there is no way of assessing the quality of the material. But UTS is cautious of how you feel. That is why we assure our clients quality services by collaborating with quality assurance organizations who keep a close check on how we work and regulate the flow of work.
With the increase in demand for translation service providers, the translation agencies quickened their pace and overcrowded the world for easy accessibility to the people. The need for high quality was equally called for. Thus, for assuring the clients to the kind of services they were getting there was a need for a gauge or meter or scale that could measure the quality of work accurately.
To meet the need of translation quality assessment, methods were introduced under the umbrella of the international standards organization, which makes sure that the quality is never compromised.
What kind of translation quality control we use
The quality certification for Universal Translation Services is given by ISO 9001 and also ISO 17100. These two renowned QA standards are set by ISO which monitors us throughout the year, making sure that we work in line with the set standards and do not deviate at any point.

ISO 17100:2015 certified
It is a translation quality control specific certification. While ISO 9001 caters to diverse fields, ISO 17100 is established only for translation industry, set up back in 2015. The guidelines were prepared by ISO’s technical committee. It looks after each and every aspect of translation, from terminologies to language and content resources, interpretation of other related technologies.
Universal Translation Services has, after all, through dedicated and rigorous hard work achieved its certification. ISO 17100 specifies requirements for all aspects of the translation process affecting the quality and delivery of our translation services in a manner that yields the most suitable results for our clients.
Every year biannual audits are held both at ISO 9001 and 17100. In case they find any kind of discrepancy in the translation; the certification is automatically revoked. We, on the other hand, have always met the set standards, making us proud achievers of both.
Owing to the fact that this system of translation quality assessment is specifically for the translation industry has earned its worldwide recognition. Now it is being adopted and recognized on higher platforms.
LISA quality assurance model
Localization Industry Standards Association or better known as LISA is a default quality assurance model set up at UTS for structuring the reviews on the quality given by reviewers. The reviewer grading window comprises of certain categories related to feedback. This window is made available to the reviewer who then grades the translation undertaken according to his better understanding. The sheet has categories of minor, major and critical grading list. The reviewer marks the sheet depending on the performance and could mark 1 for minor and 1 for critical or even for major in case of mistranslations. The score is accordingly based on the markings and totaled at the end of the review. The score decides the pass or fail of the project. If the quality is below the line then it is termed as fail. But the pass and fail categories are just for translation quality assurance. In case of failure where translation is unable to meet the quality, it is then sent to the next translator as usual.
What does LISA grading system consist of?
The grading model comprises of accuracy grading, terminology grading, language, style, country, mistranslations and consistency, typography, alignment and so much more all related to the translation domain. These are marked on the basis of a minor, major and critical as discussed above.
These steps are taken just for the sake of ensuring quality for our esteemed clients.
How Can We Ensure Translations of the Highest Quality?
The answer is language professionals. It is essential that a professional translator handles translation, but it is equally necessary that the translator’s work is maintained by a team of experts and quality assessment tools to preserve the quality of the translation.
A native-speaker translator, editor, and a quality checker make sure that the translation is correct or creative enough, but also doesn’t appear like a translation at all. In the case of high volume projects, it may be helpful to add a step to ensure a high-quality final product: a quality assessment, or QA. This is, what we are looking for: a text that is sufficiently true to the source text but at the same time seems natural and local in the target language and is free from any terrible grammar or punctuation mistakes!
Finally, let’s not forget that even the best team of translators is not as effective or valuable if there isn’t a project manager guiding them towards the best results. They make sure any issue found along the way is promptly and appropriately solved, and that the final result is always in line with the client’s requirements.
